This patient lost a great deal of vision in one eye due to a ocular complication associated with LASIK surgery known as "corneal ectasia". One year ago we fit this eye with a GVR Lens which is allowing him to see clearly once again with this eye.

I don't ever mean to make it sound like it's "easy" to become a successful musician (or artist, or gymnast, or physicist, or surgeon) when I write motivational posts for all of you - it's incredibly difficult to become a leader in any field and I never want to downplay the immense amount of time, effort and creativity that the most successful people have put into their work. However, I hear people all the time saying things like "I'll never be that good" or "I just don't have talent" or "I started too late" or "my teachers don't help me enough/don't think I can make it". All of these phrases are simply fear coming from the conscious part of your brain that is fighting against the paradigm shift your mentality needs to be successful.
We all have our comfort zones, and sometimes it's more comfortable to be unsuccessful, or simply to stay where we are because that is what we are used to. I honestly have very mixed feelings about the concept of talent. Sometimes it seems that people use the word talent as a way to describe why someone is ahead of where they are, and why they can never get there. I don't think that's true. I think it's the mentality that you don't have "talent" that is holding you back. And yes, I believe in the 10,000 hour rule, but even that has limitations. If you put in 10,000 hours but don't believe that you can be successful, you never will be. You need a balance of a healthy mindset, the belief that you will be successful no matter your limitations, and a lot of hard work to get to where you want to be.
The easiest thing to change is what we visualize. What do you see when you picture yourself 5 years from now? Do you see yourself still struggling, still failing to get to the places you want to be, and still chasing after someone else's ideal image (i.e.: I want to play and have a career like so and so)? Perhaps this is the first thing you need to change. I challenge you to daily visualize in detail who, where, and what you want to be in 5 years and watch your life begin to change.
